(More customer reviews)I wanted an HDMI Switch that didn't require a remote. Unfortunately, the auto switch feature only works if the item you're switching from doesn't put out ANY current once you turn it off. Since most products (like ALL of mine) have a "stand by" mode that puts out a little juice - this feature doesn't work. For now, I'm afraid - getting one with the little remote seems to be the only option, unless you want to get up and switch it manually. It did work though on my Sony HDTV and Samsung Blu-Ray player.

(More customer reviews)Works perfectly. I bought my HD television before HD was the thing to have, so it only had on HDMI cable port. This switch allows me to plug both my HD SAT reciever and my Blue Ray player into the tv. I looked at the ones that has a remote for switching, but then figured "well you have to get up to put the disc in the player anyway." Plus I have too many remotes as it is, its just something else for the kids to not be allowed to play with who do anyway. It was inexpensive and does its job, what more can you ask for?

(More customer reviews)This is a very good product. The Amazon description is poorly written, not telling clearly what the product does. Let this review serve as an alternate description.
What I wanted was a switcher-splitter that would allow me to imput my blue-ray player, satellite box and up to two other imputs, and route whatever I put in either to either my 1080p 47-inch monitor or my older 720p 28 inch. I like crisp images, hate blurs and accordingly get distracted abd annoyed by watching low-def content on my big monitor.
I also like to keep a tv-program, like a sport event, on, either muted or with low volume, while watching a movie, so that when something exciting begins to happen on the tv probram I can pause the movie and volume-up the tv program. This product does just what I wanted it to, which the Amazon description does not make clear. Any of the four HDMI inputs, labled 1,2,3 and 4, can be routed to either of the two HDMI outputs, labeled A and B, and the two outputs can simultaneously sport different inputs you select, just as I wanted.
There is also an optical cable audio output so that you can route the audio of whichever of the four inputs you select for HDMI output A to a home-theater amp. The sound still goes out output A. This is great.
There is one negative to this product. It is that the manual is in some language written in characters. I think it is Chinese. But you have to be pretty dumb not to be able to figure out how to work this product without a manual.

Terk HDMI-31 Smart HDMI Switch (3 X 1) Review

(More customer reviews)When I bought my plasma TV a year ago, I never imagined that I would want to connect more than one HDMI device. That changed when I bought a DVD player with HDMI and the ability to upconvert DVD's to near HD quality. After first considering spending $400+ on a new receiver with dual HDMI ports, I opted to first try this device for about $65. Money saved. The device automatically switches between the cable and DVD inputs when I turn them on and I now can enjoy the much improved DVD video quality (I had been using composite video on the DVD player) that comes from HDMI. There is no change in the input quality from my cable box HDMI input. There was virutaly no setup involved. I simply unplugged my TV's existing HDMI connection from the cable box and plugged it into the output on the Terk box. Then I ran HDMI cables from the DVD and cable box to two of the three inputs on the Terk box and powered up. That was it. Rather than buy super costly HDMI cables, I purchased two HDMI cables from Abacus 24-7 (an Amazon contractor) at $6.99 each. They work like a charm. Since for audio I use a recevier rather than my TV speakers and my receiver is not HDMI capable, I have connected my receiver to the audio outputs of my cable box and DVD player using digital fiber optical cable and get all the capability of surround sound that I could want. Those optical cables are $5.99 each from Abacus (I found them for $12.99 to $25.99 at Fry's Electronics).
Update as of May 11, 2007. Still working like a charm. I haven't had to do anything to the unit and I basically forget it is there.
Update as of June 13, 2007. I now use my computer as a digital recording device, like a TIVO-type box. I record HDTV over the air using a Terk HDTV antenna and a Hauppauge HDTV capture card. My computer graphics card has a DVI output, so I bought a DVI to HDMI converter cable ($12 at Amazon) which connects my computer to one of the HDMI source inputs on the Terk HDMI-31 Switch. It operates flawlessly. Another reason to have Terk's multiple HDMI connection capability.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this at Bestbuy with some gift cards. I have an entertainment PC in my setup so I was a little concerened about the auto switching feature. Since I never shut the PC off...I was concerend that the auto switch would continuously switch between inputs. No problems. I've been switching back and forth between DirecTV and the PC and all is good.
I only wish there wasn't such a long delay between source switching. 5 seconds isn't a long time to wait, but I wasn't expecting any kind of delay. This is the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product because it was the only solution I found that didn't require me buying another HDMI cable. I was expecting that I would need to manually switch between cable and dvd player which was fine. However, when I received the switcher a few days later, I plugged it in to the TV and attached the cable and dvd player cables to the unit (which is very small)I found that the unit switched itself, sensing where the signal was coming from. Amazing considering the price.
Dollar for dollar, this thing cannot be beat. This is one of those rare purchases that far exceeded my expectations. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with this.

Also, the remote control only functions within 3 inches of the switch itself, any farther away and the remote won't work. Making the remote pointless.

(More customer reviews)I have three HDMI ports on the TV but four devices. I have a Samsung 1080P DLP with 5.1 surround. After reviewing and looking at all the switches I decided give this IOGear switch a try based on price. I have a PS3 and a Roku box sharing the device and it works perfect. The PS3 games and Blu Ray look and sound exactly the same. The Roku box streaming HD looks great. The 5.1 Dolby sounds awesome on both devices. Plus I now have an extra HDMI port. The switch is about the size of a deck of cards and to install I just plugged in the devices, connected the box to the TV and the switch was in place and working in just a minute or two. It requires no external power source. The only negative is that the green LED lights for power and HDMI source are to bright. When watching a good Blu Ray with the lights off I hide the LEDs with a remote.

this little gem of a product was able to get all the devices working using only the two ports I had available.
The smart switch actually does a good job at turning on the right product when you turn on a specific device.
Another point is the product is actually much smaller and compact then I thought, slightly larger than a matchbook.
I was able to hook all the cables to it and velcro it to the side of the tv and I have manual access to the switch if needed without it being an eysore. It now lurks and performs unoticed. I also have not noticed vido quality issues since installing the switch.
I would recommend this product in a heartbeat ! It solved my dilema better than expected.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this HDMI Auto Switch last month, and it works just perfectly. I connected my TiVo HD DVR and DVD recorder up to this switch and into my HD TV, so that both of my components could share a single HDMI connection, and it works like a charm. Anytime that I want to watch a DVD, I only power on the DVD recorder, and the switcher automatically switches from the TiVo DVR to the DVD recorder. When I power off the DVD recorder, the switcher automatically switches back to the DVR, just like the product description on this Amazon.com site states.
I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone and everyone out there who have multiple devices with an HDMI connection. The great advantage to having this HDMI switcher is that the user does NOT have to physically get up and push any buttons on the switcher just to use one of their HDMI connected components like their DVD recorder, DVR, etc. This HDMI Auto Switch sure beats the heck out of other HDMI switchers that require the user to physically get up and PUSH the buttons on the switcher just to use a different HDMI connected device.
To all out there with multiple HDMI connected devices, this product is an AWESOME buy for YOU.

(More customer reviews)Pros - Received it, opened it, connected it, updated my Logitech Harmony Remote (this device was listed as a device that can be controlled by the Harmony), then proceeded to game flawlessly. Once my universal remote was programmed, the device was forever seamlessly integrated into my Audio/Video center. I have an XBOX 360, PS3, and Wii (yes with the component cables) connected. Switching between consoles is flawless. With the Harmony Remote preprogrammed to switch to whatever input is required for gaming, you do not even know the box is in-line between the gaming systems and the HDTV. For the price, this device gave more inputs/types than anything I could find at Best Buy or anywhere else online (most other devices didn't come with a remote or had too few inputs, or was overly expensive to meet the specifications I needed - three component A/V inputs to a singular output, remote, small form factor, and controllable via Logitech Harmony Remotes). Very highly recommended.
Con - Wish it was black.

(More customer reviews)If you are reading this review you have probably shopped around and studied the various types of HDMI switches. I am happy to report (and show) that this could be the switch for you. Installing is easy (as you would expect) taking less than 5 minutes. Video quality appears to be great (I can't tell a difference between using the switch and directly wiring the HDMI and bypassing the switch).
The best feature is the price! This unit is about 50% less than any other HDMI switch on the market.
- The automatic switching does not work for me - mainly because one of my devices is an Apple TV which tricks the HDMI Switch into thinking that it is always on.
- The automatic switching is not a problem since the HDMI Switch comes with an IR remote - while the remote is flimsy it can be easily programmed into a smart remote.
Final Verdict - I am very happy both in the products functionality and in the price.
